Ph.D Dance
The Ph.D. in Dance program at S-VYASA Deemed to be University is designed to cultivate advanced research skills and comprehensive knowledge in Indian dance, with a special emphasis on dance studies, aesthetics, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary research. The program aims to develop scholars, educators, researchers, and practitioners capable of advancing dance through innovative research, academic excellence, cultural preservation, and creative inquiry. It prepares candidates to integrate dance with education, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), performing arts, health and well-being, culture, and community engagement, thereby fostering meaningful contributions to academia, research, and society.
Objectives
- Promote an in-depth understanding of Indian dance traditions, aesthetics, pedagogy, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), and contemporary perspectives in dance.
- Foster innovation, preservation, and dissemination of dance knowledge through scholarly research, documentation, publications, and creative inquiry.
- Develop advanced research competencies and critical inquiry skills in dance studies through original, interdisciplinary, and evidence-based research.
- Prepare scholars for leadership roles in academia, research, cultural institutions, and the performing arts by promoting ethical practices, lifelong learning, and meaningful contributions to society.
Admission and Eligibility Prerequisites
The eligibility requirement for candidates to get admitted to the Ph.D. Programme shall include the following:
- Master degree in the field of dance from a recognized University with 55% aggregate marks.
- Post Graduation in any Professional program with 55% aggregate marks and
- NET/JRF is preferred for all the divisions.
Relaxation of Marks for special categories :
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled in the aggregate marks of the qualifying examination.

Duration and Timetable
- The program shall be normally for a minimum period of three academic years and maximum period of six academic years for full time duration only
- The calendar of events in respect of the program shall be fixed by the University from time to time
- The examination for the subjects shall be conducted at the end of each semester except when there are no candidates taking examination for any subjects
